![]() ![]() There were also 1,133 peach and 147 apple trees and about 800 acres of cultivated land. There were also barns, smokehouses, corn cribs, a grist mill, a sawmill, blacksmith shops, taverns, a peach kiln, and whiskey stills. In addition to his fine home there were many cabins, some to house his 110 African slaves and others for hired help. in all there were 96 structures on the Vann estate. A plantation was more like a small town than just a single house. I won’t be going back. This reconstruction depicts one of the log cabins as it would have appeared on the Chief Joseph Vann's Springplace Plantation. But, alas, it is a BBQ restaurant, and people go for the BBQ. They even held up nicely by the time we got back home and sat down to eat. The hot buttered rolls were pretty buttery and delicious. They were on the bland side, and the fries were skinny and average. The potato salad was creamy and also tasted homemade. I had the macaroni salad which was yummy, tasted homemade, and he used seashell pasta, instead of the usual elbow. I gave 2 stars for the service and the sides. We both ordered the 3 way (ribs/chicken/hot link + 2 sides and a roll) for $ 8. He let us order from the lunch menu (even though it was dinner), and he got our order out fast. The owner was an extremely nice and humble man. I could have boiled and baked the meat in my own oven and poured some generic BBQ sauce over it and gotten the same flavor. I don’t know if he claims to use a smoker, but there was no smokey flavor at all. ![]() The chicken also tasted like it was prepared the same way as the ribs. The link tasted like a giant hot dog sliced down the middle and slathered in the unremarkable cue sauce. The ribs were obviously boiled, grilled to get a char mark, and then slathered with bottle-tasting sauce, which actually wasn’t bad, but not remarkable on any level. Well, he must like it because it is conveniently located next door to his apartment. A friend who frequents this spot hyped it up so much that I was anticipating it becoming my new go-to BBQ joint (don’t worry, Sandra Dee’s, you are still at the top of my list!). Any suggestions? :)Ī true disappointment. I gotta look for another bbq joint that is worth going to. The FLIES… enough said I am giving this place 3 stars because the portions are good, the prices are not bad at all compared to others, the macaroni and potato salad are good. The sweet potato pie is… grocery store bought pumpkin pie and you can tell. dirty dining room… gross…I accidently somehow touched under the table and it was disgustingly sticky and the top of the tables appeared cleaned… but… they are not… they are sticky like it has been wiped with a week old rag. I asked him if he had iced tea and he snapped at me like I asked him a difficult question. bbq sauce… it is good… but he needs to control how much he puts on his meat… it is his way of covering up the pretend bbq’d meat. The ribs… boiled and then slapped on a grill 5. I have a bag at home that looks and tastes just like it. Fry’s must be straight from a grocery store bag from the frozen food section. It is like it was just doused in bbq sauce. His is super over cooked and dry and you can tell that it was boiled or something because the skin is too soft and there are no grill marks. The chicken… I love bbq chicken… but my bbq chicken is WAY better. The guy who owns the place was super nice my first time there, then I went back a couple days later and he was not as friendly he seemed grumpy and when I said I was there a couple days ago and said I enjoyed it, he looked at me and gave me a weird smirk and said in an irritated tone, «what would you like?» he seemed as if he was in a hurry or he was busy… when no one else was even there… and when I walked in prior to all that he was just reading a paper leaning on the counter… 2. ![]() I thought I found a great bbq joint but after going there 4 times, I have noticed a few things. ![]()
